In an interview with Billboard magazine Latto was asked about her newly released single ‘Big Mama and if it was a play on words in connection to Lil Kim‘s legendary 90’s hit ‘Big Momma Thang.’
Latto expressed that she wasn’t trying to steal from Kim and that she believes women can appreciate the messages in both of their songs.
“What about Lil’ Kim? Any connection between Big Mama and Big Momma Thang?
Latto responded, “I swear to God, no! (Laughs.) [My producers] reminded me of that and I was like, “Oh, sh-t.”
“I hope [she] don’t take that as offensive, like I’m tryna run off with her swag.” But I spell mine different. And Kim love me down. Me and Kim like this. (Crosses fingers.)”
She added, “That’s my b-ch. I don’t even think it’s like a Kim or Latto thing. It’s just a female’s bossed-up version of herself.”
Kim took to Instagram on Saturday with a post to her stories and wrote, “Period Pooh! Love U DOWN! & Big Mama @latto I’ve always told u that we’re so much alike.”
Latto replied with an repost as she wrote,”Issa big momma thangggg 😭❤️”
