Cousins! BIG Congratulations are in order for Nelly and Ashanti following reports that the two secretly tied the knot nearly six months ago!
As we previously reported, the couple broke the internet back in April as they announced they are officially engaged and expecting their first child together.
According to a marriage certificate obtained by TMZ, the 43-year-old singer and her 49-year-old rapper tied the knot on December 27th, 2023 in Nelly’s hometown of St Louis, Missouri.
Earlier this week in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti dished on the details of Nelly’s surprise proposal. “I felt like it was gonna come soon,” she said. “I didn’t know when. And the way that it happened was just so funny.”
“It was just such a beautiful, intimate moment,” Ashanti explained that they had been lying down watching TV and that she was wearing a t-shirt and boxers when he popped the question. “We were not dressy.”
“I cried. I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever,” Ashanti recalled. “I FaceTimed everyone I know… I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kind of like all in one.”
Sources state that despite Ashanti and Nelly being married for nearly six months the two have yet to have a ceremony. “We’re both extremely busy, obviously with the baby coming, everything else takes the back seat,” she explained.
The couple originally began dating in the early 2000s, but went their separate ways in 2013. After nearly ten years the couple decided to rekindle their relationship in 2023.
