Cousins! Sparks were definitely flying this weekend as the players of both the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever went head to head in an eventful matchup!
Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter went viral on social media after bumping and side-swiping Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. She initially received a common foul for the aggressive hip thrust which was later upgraded to a flagrant -1 violation following further review.
Fellow Sky teammate Angel Reese received a $1,000 fine from the WNBA for failing to make herself available to reporters after the game.
According to Fox News, The Sky was also fined $5,000 for, failing to ensure that all players comply with league media policies.
Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon issued a statement following the Sky versus Fever game. “Physical play, intensity, and a competitive spirit are hallmarks of Chicago Sky basketball. Chennedy got caught up in the heat of the moment in an effort to win the game.
“She and I have discussed what happened and that it was not appropriate, nor is it what we do or who we are. Chennedy understands that there are better ways to handle situations on the court, and she will learn from this, as we all will.
She adds, “As a team, we will grow together and continue to work hard to display strong leadership and set a positive example for our competitors, fans, and partners.”
Chennedy seemingly avoided any fines or suspensions regarding the play against Caitlin. She didn’t speak on the hard foul as she told reporters during postgame interviews that she wasn’t answering any questions regarding Caitlin.
“That’s just not a basketball play. But, you gotta play through it. That’s what basketball’s about at this level,” said Caitlin to reporters while admitting she didn’t see the hard hit coming.
