Cousins! The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has issued an official statement following the 2016 video of Diddy brutally assaulting Cassie !
While confirming that they have reviewed the 2016 clip, officials state that they are unable to pursue charges due to the incident occurring beyond the timeline where crime of assault can be prosecuted.
“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles. We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.
The statement continues, “As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr.Combs.”
However, the attorney’s office does encourage anyone who has been a victim or a witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or their office.
“—but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services.”
An absolutely heartbreaking 2016 video clip was shared earlier this month by CNN that shows Diddy assaulting Cassie.
The incident occurred on March 5th, 2016 at the the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. Cassie can be seen walking down a hallway barefooted, as she enters the elevator area she places her bags on the floor and attempts to put her shoes on.
In a matter of seconds Diddy can be seen running down the hallway toward the elevator area holding a white towel around his waist.
As Diddy approaches her he grabs Cassie by the back of the neck and throws her down to the ground. While still holding his towel with one hand, he turns and kicks as she remains on the floor.
Diddy then retrieves her purse and suitcase from the floor by the elevators and turns around and kicks Cassie again as she remained motionless on the floor.
Another clip shows Cassie attempting to gather her things up from the floor and moving to pick up a phone in the hallway near the elevators. Diddy appears again, in a towel and socks; a mirror across from the security camera captures Diddy shoving Cassie in a corner.
Another shot shows Diddy picking up a large item within their hotel suite as he sat down and throwing it at Cassie.
Cassie says that Diddy paid the hotel $50,000 for the video. As we previously reported, the singer had detailed multiple scenarios of abuse within her now-settled November 2023 Civil lawsuit against the music mogul.
The video instantly went viral a cross social media as fans, fellow artists and members of the entertainment industry watched in shocked while extending support to Cassie.
Fashion designer and mother to Diddy’s son Justin Combs, Misa Hylton says that she was triggered by the video in recalling abuse that she experienced in her own life. Misa also says that Diddy needs help and that she hopes he does the personal work to fully receive it.
Diddy took to social media in response to the surfaced video clip to apologize for his actions. He explains that he was in a dark place at the time and has now taken to therapy and rehab in efforts of becoming a better man.
“My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he said in a video statement posted to Instagram.
“I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” he continuer. “I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
The defamed music mogul’s apology flatlined as social media users called him out for previously denying Cassie’s claims.
