Cousins! Oprah Winfrey is set to tackle the difficult conversations regarding prescription weight-loss injectable drugs like Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, and more within an upcoming prime-time special on ABC!
The 70-year-old media mogul made headlines last month after exiting her role on the board of directors for WeightWatchers after admitting to using weight-loss drugs.
“An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution” is scheduled to air later this month on March 18th. The special will include Oprah alongside medical experts and patients as they discuss “the radical impact” of prescription weight-loss drugs, reports the New York Post. It has been indicated that a live studio audience will be present for the ABC special.
“It is a very personal topic for me and for the hundreds of millions of people impacted around the globe who have for years struggled with weight and obesity,” said Oprah.
“This special will bring together medical experts, leaders in the space and people in the day-to-day struggle to talk about health equity and obesity with the intention to ultimately release the shame, judgment and stigma surrounding weight.”
Within a December interview with People Magazine Oprah admitted to using weight loss drugs, however she never specified which one exactly. “I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing.”
“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.”
She added, “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
Oprah served as a longtime investor in WeightWatchers ranging from 2015 to 2024 as she said she was leaving the board to “eliminate any perceived conflict of interest around her taking weight-loss medications.”
“An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution” airs March 18 on ABC at 8 p.m. EST and streams the next day on Hulu.
