Cousins we’re sending prayers and well wishes to legendary talk show WendyWillians following reports that she has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
According to reports from NBC, news of Wendy’s current condition was confirmed in a statement by her team on Thursday while noting that the series of diagnosis have, “presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life.”
“Wendy would not have received confirmation of these diagnoses were it not for the diligence of her current care team, who she chose, and the extraordinary work of the specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine. Receiving a diagnosis has enabled Wendy to receive the medical care she requires,“ reads the issued statement.
According to the Mayo Clinic, primary progressive Aphasia is described as being a nervous system syndrome that affects a person’s ability to communicate. Individuals who have been diagnosed with Aphasia, often experience trouble expressing their thoughts and can lose their ability to speak and write.
Sources state that symptoms typically occur before the age of 65.
Frontotemporal dementia, also known as FTD, belongs to a group of diseases that mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of a person’s brain. It is closely associated with behavioral and personality changes, reports the Mayo Clinic.
Throughout the years, Wendy has been transparent with fans in sharing her battle with lymphedema and Graves’ disease. In 2017, the 59 year old made headlines everywhere as she fainted in the middle of a Halloween episode of “The Wendy Williams Show.”
According to NBC, she announced that she was taking a three-week break a year later due to her Graves’ disease diagnosis.
In 2022 the ‘Wendy Williams Show’ officially wrapped due to ongoing health issues she had been experiencing.
Wendy’s team shares that the decision to share her latest health diagnosis was “difficult and made after careful consideration.” They state that the former talk show host is still able to “do many things for herself” and is actively receiving treatment.
“Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed,” reads the released statement. “She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way.”
