Appeal Hearing Scheduled For Three Men Convicted In The Murder Of Ahmaud Arbery; Set To Argue That Race Didn’t Play A Role!

Cousins! The three men convicted in the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery are scheduled to argue in an appeal hearing that race wasnt a factor in his murder!

As we previously reported William Bryan alongside father and son Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael was convicted in 2022 of a hate crime for shooting Ahmaud as he jogged through a Georgia neighborhood.

According to 11 Alive News, the 11th Circuit U.S Court of Appeals has scheduled oral arguments to begin on March 27th where the three men will request to have their hate crime convictions tossed out.

William, Gregory, and Travis chased Ahmaud in their pickup trucks after the McMichaels stated they saw him stop in the middle of jogging and enter the construction site of a home. The tragic ordeal took place in the Saltillo Shored subdivision located outside the Brunswick area of a Georgia town.

It has been indicated that the McMichaels initiated the chase and that William joined them as he watched from his home. Court documents detail that the three men pursued Ahmaud for a total of five minutes as they attempted to box him in with their trucks.

Gregory was armed with a .357 Magnum while his son Travis ultimately cornered off Ahmaud and shot him in the street. Ahmaud attempted to defend himself and grab his gun after the first shot, he was then shot two additional times in his chest.

Prosecutors stated that the men purposely chased and shot Ahmaud out of “pent-up racial anger,” reports AP News.

During the three men’s trial, prosecutors provided evidence of the trio’s hatred for Black people which included social media posts, text messages and more.

“Bryan reportedly used racial slurs while noting that his daughter was dating a Black man, including calling him “n—r” and a “monkey.” The prosecutors also presented a witness who testified that Greg McMichael angrily remarked, “All those Blacks are nothing but trouble,” back in 2015 following the death of civil rights activist Julian Bond,” reports Atlanta Black Star.

The McMichaels were convicted of a federal hate crime killing which added an additional ten years on to their life sentence. William was sentenced to 35 years in prison following his conviction.
