Cousins! The end of an era is amongst us as Best Buy has confirmed its plans to terminate all sales of DVDs, CDs, and Blu-Ray discs!

The giant electronic retailer announced their plans a few months ago stating that they will continue to sell physical discs through the 2023 holiday season. According to Fox News, as the New Year rang in Best Buy has since moved forward in removing DVDs and Blu-Ray discs from their shelves.

A spokesperson for the company said in October that their decision was made due to the new trend in how people watch movies and television shows. While also adding that the move will help them to create space for high-demand and more advanced gadgets.

‘To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago.’

‘Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover, and enjoy.’

The Daily Mail reports that Best Buy’s recent changes have created an open avenue for competitors such as Walmart, Amazon, and Target for in-stock DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

It has been stated that Best Buy physical stores have been in the process of making changes that reflect the current state of consumer consumption. The retailer has made modifications such as shrinking sections where DVDs and Blu-rays are displayed.

Sources state that in 2023, physical media in the U.S. experienced a 28 percent decline, rounding off to about $754 million in the first half of the year.

In comparison to $1.05billion revenue recorded in 2022, according to the Digital Entertainment Group.

Cousins, with the evergrowing advancement in technology is it safe to say DVDs are no longer needed?
