Yvonne Orji Makes Her Directorial Debut Following First Look Deal With Sony Pictures Televsion!

Cousins! ‘Insecure, actress Yvonne Orji made her directorial debut at this year’s Urban World festival with the premiere of her short film, “Jamaal: a day on the life of a Black man with no additional trauma”

In a post to Instagram Yvonne reflected on her project’s debut. “They say you’ll always remember your first time…That first time seeing, “written & DIRECTED by Yvonne Orji,” is not a moment I will soon forget.”

“What a magical night at @urbanworldff experiencing my directorial debut of the short film, “Jamaal: a day in the life of a Black man with no ADDITIONAL trauma.”

The 40 year old shared that she shot the film in one day alongside lead actors Derrick A. King and Marija Abney. “To have my amazing lead actors, @kingderrick.a & @marija_abney (remember these names and faces, cuz they blowing all da way up!) by my side was just the icing on the cake!”

“Shout out to @paulfeig @powderkegtv Kesila, Erica, Zoe, the entire cast and crew & post production that turned this ONE DAY (14 hour shoot) into something I can be SO DARN PROUD OF!”

The Emmy award nominated actress also saluted her former cast mate Jay Ellis, producers Prentice Penny Melina Matsoukas for lending her advice.

“Who said, ‘you only have one day? Then your only goal is to just make your day, don’t try to do nuffin fancy,” Yvonne joked.

‘Jamaal’ follows a young Black man who is on the cusp of what could be the biggest day of his life. However, it’s riddled with challenges as he navigates the highs and lows of a Dream Deferred, while simultaneously trying to maintain his faith and holding on to hope, reads an excerpt from Urban World.
