Black Enterprise reports that Mayor Adams’ devices were gathered for evidence surrounding his 2021 mayoral campaign as he is being suspected of allegedly conspiring with Turkish government officials to accept illegal donations.
Mayor Adams’ attorney Boyd Johnson has released a statement following the federal investigation as he details someone close to him had acted improperly.
“After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly. In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators. The Mayor has been and remains committed to cooperating in this matter.
Johnson’s statement continues, “On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an event. The Mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and provided them with electronic devices. The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation.”
Mayor Adams’ campaign fundraiser Chief Brianna Suggs’ had been raided by FBI and NYPD officials earlier this month, reports CBS News. It has been stated that the raid took place early morning on November 2nd, within the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. Agents were seen transferring labeled evidence boxes from Brianna’s home as one of the various other locations the police had visited.
Political reporter Marcia Kramer says that the information Mayor Adams’ lawyer had turned over to investigators did not involve Brianna, but rather someone else on his team.
At this time there has been no word of who the individual in question actually is however, it has been shared that information about the person was on one of Mayor Adams’ devices.
“As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation-and I will continue to do exactly that. I have nothing to hide,” says Mayor Adams.
Sources have confirmed that Mayor Adams’ devices were returned to him a few days after they were seized.
