Cousins! Major congratulations are in order for the new Disney Queen including her family on land or in the sea Halle Bailey, following exciting news that “The Little Mermaid” film has been named the NO.1 movie in the world!

Following an impressive box office debut over the Memorial Day weekend the film racked up a projected $117 million dollars in sales. According to Entertainment weekly, the newly imaged action film pulled in $95.5 million dollars on opening day. The film is said to have surpassed “Fast X” following their $107M opening week and $507M worldwide sales in the last two weeks.

“Can’t believe it today is the day!! the little mermaid is out everywhere in theaters now 🥹🧜🏽‍♀️💕,” wrote Halle on social media as she reflected on the journey of creating the film. “This was my first time ever doing a film like this, and words can’t describe how immensely grateful i am to have had this experience with such a beautiful group of people …please go watch and enjoy with your loved ones!! 💗”

This major win comes despite online backlash the film has received from racist social media users who are said to have ‘review bombed’ the film across critic websites. ‘Many online audience reviews have been artificially impacted by people online signing up for movie review sites and issuing negative ratings in an attempt to hinder the success of a film,’ reports the Business Insider.

“..good outweighs all the bad” says Halle in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly in regards to the negative online comments verses the outpour of love she receives. “I just have to block out the noise. I don’t really see a lot of the comments. I choose to not read them, or delete Twitter, things like that, and just accept this moment for what it is, which is a big, beautiful blessing and opportunity for me.”

IMDb has issued an official disclaimer surrounding the issue of review bombing. Out of the 34,000 ratings the film received on IMDb it has been declared that 14,000 were 1-star reviews.”Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternative weighting calculation has been applied.”

Reports read that ” The Little Mermaid” has secured the crown in being named the fifth highest grossing film in Memorial weekend openings history. Back in 2022 Top Gun: Maverick debuted with $160 million dollars.

It has been indicated that “The Little Mermaid” ticket sales beat Disney’s 2019 live-action remake of “Aladdin,” which grossed $116.8 million on Memorial Day.

Cousins, be sure to get out there and support the Little Mermaid film in theaters now!
