Cousins! We’ve gotten some super heavy news this afternoon following reports that at least three children and three adults have been confirmed as deceased following a mass shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee earlier today!
According to CNN the suspected shooter was fatally shot by police following the tragic incident at Covenant School. Though her name hasn’t been released to the public as of yet, the 28 year old woman is believed to have been a previous student.
The suspected gun-woman is also stated to have appeared as a teenager as she entered the school’s building by using a side door. Officials state that she was armed with at least two assault-style rifles including a handgun.
“3 students & 3 adult staff members from Covenant School were fatally shot by the active shooter, who has now been identified as a 28-year-old Nashville woman,” reads a tweet from Nashville police said earlier this afternoon.
It has been stated that all of the shooting victims had been transferred to a local hospital where they were later confirmed deceased. As of right now the names of the deceased students and proposed faculty members haven’t been released to the public at this time. Covenant elementary school teaches grades from pre-school through 6th.
The three deceased students were all listed as being only 9 years old.
During an emergency news conference this afternoon President Biden called on congress to officially pass an assault weapon ban as he details today incident as both sick and heartbreaking.
“ I want to commend the police who responded incredibly swiftly, within minutes in the danger … I call on Congress again to pass my assault weapons ban. It’s about time that we started to make some more progress.”
Bryan Chapell of the Presbyterian Church in America also a forwarded statement in response to todays tragic occurrences, “Our heartfelt concerns and prayers are for the families of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Covenant School and the Nashville community.”
“We grieve the loss and trauma associated with this horrible tragedy. May God comfort all who mourn. May He provide wisdom to the authorities as they investigate as well as to the church leadership as they minister to a grieving congregation and community.”
