Cousins! Congratulations are in ordered for the married couple of Da Brat and Jesseca ‘Judy’ Harris-Dupart as they reveal that they have a bundle of joy on the way!
In an exclusive maternity shoot with People Magazine Da-Brat provides a very first look at her growing baby bump along with a gangsta inspired theme as she dishes on the details of the couple’s journey through motherhood. “It’s been quite a journey,” says Da Brat. “There’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”
The couple shared that they often talked about starting a family sometime last year after they tied the knot back in February of 2022 but nothing had been solidified. “It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ ” said Da Brat.”But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!’”
Aside from Jessica having three children of her own prior to their union, Da Brat says she never thought about having kids until they met and her mindset changed. “I never thought I was going to have kids.”
“I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me,” said the Atlanta native.
She continued, “I started looking at life so differently, I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”
However Da Brat says she wasn’t too sure about carrying a child. “I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!” But Jesseca was seemingly able to sway her. “We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience,” she says. “She is so nurturing.”
According to People, Jesseca had sadly endured health complications after an egg retrieval procedure. While Da Brat also was faced with health issues of her own. She is said to have had removal of fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure.
Sadly they’ve also endured a miscarriage, “I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me,” says Da Brat.
Thankfully they had a few eggs left. The couple explains that they chose an anonymous donor detailed as “an eager entrepreneur” from their cryo bank. Da Brat is currently 18 weeks pregnant and moving towards her second trimester.
The rapper says, “It’s just a blessing. I’m excited!” She’s says that she is just extremely exhausted. “I don’t have any cravings or nausea. But I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy!”
