Cousins! Disney plus original animated show the ‘Proud Family: Louder and Prouder’ has officially released their highly anticipated second season. The series of new episodes has received major traction throughout social media as the show’s writers and cast members have taken the time to address societal issues, relatable topics and more head on!
A video clip on social media has gone viral from an episode titled ‘Juneteenth,’ where the show’s characters proceeded in presenting a school project discussing the topics of slavery, Jim Crow laws, The Emancipation Proclamation, systematic racism, the Civil Right’s movement and more. Together they expressed within a poetic-music like demonstration that Black descendants are responsible for the overall progression of America.
The band of friends shocked not only the school’s faculty members but also fellow students as they directly stated that America owes Black Americans reparations in full.
“This country was built on slavery, which means slaves built this country,” the teens repeated within the chorus of their presentation.
“The descendants of slaves continue to build it, slaves built this country and we the descendants of slaves in America have earned reparations for their suffering and continue to earn reparations every moment we spend submerged in a systemic prejudice, racism and White supremacy that America was founded with and still has not atoned for,” the four students expressed.
“We made your families rich,” they continued . “From the southern plantation heirs to the northern bankers to the New England shipowners, the Founding Fathers, former presidents, current senators, the Illuminati, the New World Order.”
“We had Tubman, Turner, Frederick D, then they say Lincoln freed the slaves, but slaves were men and women, and only we can free ourselves,” the song declared. “Emancipation is not freedom. Jim Crow, segregation, redlining, public schools feeding private prisons where we become slaves again.”
The episode has received mixed reviews online as viewers applaud the show’s cast and crew for tackling topics surrounding slavery. While other social media users have accused the Disney network of promoting anti-white propaganda and critical race theory to children.
A Twitter account by the name of End Wokeness tweeted, “Blatant anti-white propaganda,” along with a video clip from the viral episode reports Fox News.
“😂 everyone so surprised that Proud family did this. Y’all forget the original had episodes about segregation , discrimination post 9/11 of middle eastern folks and an episode about the F slur/bullying gay kids ? C’mon now. Proud family isn’t “suddenly woke” now,” reads a tweet from a social media user.
“are people seriously bitching about the Proud Family reboot being “woke?” the reboot of the show that touched on segregation in the 1960s and anti-Muslim bigotry after 9/11 among other things? they were “woke” (read: socially aware) before people referred to it as “woke,” reads another tweet.
“They made Proud Family woke!” examples shown of the original show being woke “Yeah, but it was SUBTLE then!” No, you GREW UP and became brainwashed by right-wing media to see big bad “wokeism” around every corner and can’t handle that you grew up on it all along.”
