Forever First Lady Michelle Obama announced on Thursday that her second book, The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, will be released on Nov. 15, 2022!
The former First Lady stated in an Instagram video that she’s often felt “vulnerable at times” in the event of a global pandemic, the Jan. 6 insurrection and the rising tide of hate and bigotry. Mrs. Obama has penned the many lessons she’s learned in the past couple of years on adapting to our stressful, uncertain world and channeling our frustration into something positive.
In her IG post, Mrs. Obama stated, “This book is a collection of stories and practices that have helped me sort through all the challenges and questions that keep us up at night: How do I know I’m good enough? How do I bring my whole self to the table? How can I overcome my fears?”
Her very first book, and memoir Becoming, released in 2018, was a blockbuster hit racking up to 10 million sales worldwide in less than five months.
According to the Associated Press, Michelle Obama has sold over 17 million copies of her memoir since its release, outselling any previous first lady or modern president, including her husband, President Barack Obama’s 1995 memoir Dreams From My Father, and 2006 campaign book The Audacity of Hope. Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House under which the book will be released said, “Penguin Random House is honored to partner once again with Michelle Obama and to help bring her powerful storytelling and earned wisdom to readers everywhere.” He added, “I am confident that her new book will provide all of us with some urgently needed reassurance while rekindling a spirit of optimism about the power we all hold to positively shape our personal and collective futures.”
According to NY Times, Penguin Random House said the book will be published in 14 languages and that the initial U.S. print run will be 2.75 million copies. Like her memoir, “Becoming,” it will be published by Crown, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
