We have some unfortunate news to share. An 18-year-old female was allegedly shot by a professor at the college of West Georgia university she planned to attend this fall.
Professor Richard Sigma, 47, has been arrested for allegedly murdering Anna Jones in her vehicle.
According to 11 Alive News, the Carrollton Police Department, Richard was taken into custody after shooting the young lady following an argument he had with another person in the popular pizzeria Leopoldo’s. The man was allegedly threatened by the professor, which led him to notify security. When security approached Professor Sigman, they asked him to leave the premises. Initially he did leave.
Professor Sigman went to the parking lot but returned and opened fire to the area. Sadly, Anna Jones was in the area and she was struck while sitting in a vehicle.
There are no reports stating that Anna knew the professor. Friends and family state that she was a “beautiful, sweet, caring girl” set to attend UWG in the fall, and was a recent high school graduate of Mount Zion High school.
UWG’s president presented their condolences to Anna and her family and others who are affected.
Professor Richard Sigma has been terminated from the university and has charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of firearm and murder charges.
Family and Friends have a GoFundMe page in honor of funeral expenses.
