Jasmine Davis Announces Her Exit From ‘The Chi’ Over Disney’s Response To Anti-LGBTQIA+ Legislation!

For all you Chi’s fans out there, Season 5 will be missing a character and sadly it is none other than Trig’s ride-or-die!

Jasmine Davis, who plays stylish salon owner Imani, will not be returning to the next season of The Chi.According to Yahoo! News, the actress took to Twitter to announce her departure, while citing Disney, she implied  that the company is behind her reasoning. 

“Due to the many inquiries I’m officially announcing. I will not be in season 5 of @SHOTheChi and I will no longer be part of #thechi/#disneyproduction,” Davis tweeted. “Sending a BIG THANKS to all of my family and supporters/fans who have embraced me with along this journey. #selfworth.”

Jasmine who is a member of the transgender community played  a transgender character on the but showtime series. Though she didn’t go into specific details, she seemingly implied that she was no longer willing to work on a series in which Disney is involved. 

The Chi is produced by 20th Television, which is also a part of Disney Television Studios. Reports read that 

following Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signing the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” in March, which has led to people been calling out Disney for its soft stance against the measure.

As we previously reported the new bill prohibits, public school teachers from discussing sexual orientation or gender identity in the classroom.

Within the latest season, Imani had dealt with transphobia coming from Trigg’s friend, and series newcomer Shaad, played by actor  Jason Weaver. As the season continued Shaad ultimately referred to Imani as his  “family” while defending her against a man who made vulgar comments about her gender.

Jasmine joined The Chi in season 3 and was initially met with mixed responses to her character on the show. After the season 4 finale, viewer’s sentiment had begun to shift a bit, as she told TVLine, “Actually, the love overshadows the hate by a hundred times. So even if there was hate this season? I didn’t notice it.”

Imani was one of the most diverse characters on the show and grew as a fan favorite. Cousins, will you miss seeing her across your TV screens?
