The young self-proclaimed white supremacist, had the inactive starting a race war and specifically targeted the 200-year-old historically African American congregation.

“For those killed in the shooting, the settlements range from $6 million to $7.5 million per claimant. For the survivors, the settlements are for $5 million per claimant”.

Reports read that Roof has been sentenced to death. He is the first person to get the death penalty for a federal hate crime.

BBC reports, since the day of the shooting, the goal of the DOJ was sought to bring justice to the community. First by a successful hate crime prosecution and today by settling civil claims, as per Attorney General Merrick B Garland.

“The department hopes that these settlements, combined with its prosecution of the shooter will bring some modicum of justice to the victims of this heinous act of hate.”

In other news, Roof appealed his death row conviction last year, saying he was suffering with various mental illnesses the day of the shooting. Fast forward to today, the appeal is still being upheld and he remains on death row in Indiana.

It is great to see that justice was made and we are still sending our love and prayers to the families of those victims.
