Cousins!

Students of Howard university are still going strong in protests advocating for changes to the Blackburn campus dorm life following claims of  poor living standards!

Fox 5 news confirms that the protest for these changes have entered week 2 and students can be seen camped out in tents on campus in front of the Blackburn dorms; the poor living standards included mold, mice, roaches, and fleas.  Due to the ongoing protest CBS News reports that the university has laid off several employees.

The college took to Twitter and expressed, “We are sad to report the occupation of Blackburn has led to an unintended consequence for the HU community. Due to the café being close, some Sodexo workers have been laid off.  We are committed to working with our students to avoid more repercussions like this one”.

The students of the protest are still waiting on an updated housing plan to accommodate current and future classes before 2022 and to appoint current and former students to the board of trustees.

The university’s vice president of student affairs issued a statement Tuesday that the school has invited public officials, health inspectors, students, and parents to examine residence halls amid the student protests.

“We have created these opportunities not only as a good faith effort to demonstrate that the University is not attempting to conceal any information from the public, but also to uncover any overlooked problems and establish regular channels of communication among a diversity of individuals with different perspectives and areas of expertise.”

Wow all of this to started during homecoming weekend, we doubt the students at HU are happy about this. CBS Newsreported that the students have decided to boycott the weeklong celebration to bring added awareness to their cause.

Cousins, what are your thoughts on the living situation at HU?
