Despite the differences in opinions viewers may feel after tuning into Dave Chapelle new comedy special ‘“The Closer”, we can all agree that he has succeeded in the art of kicking off conversations around the world!
As social media users continue to battle over if the seasoned comedian should be cancelled or not the folks of TMZ ran into the legendary Damon Wayans on Monday at LAX and asked what was his personal take on the controversial set.
He says that ‘Dave freed the slave…” Damon continues to explain by saying comedians at this time are being cheated of their art by being told what to say and what not to say.
“ We were slaves to PC culture, As an artist, he’s Van Gogh with his ear off. He’s trying to tell us, ‘It’s okay.’ ”
Damon continues, “ “I’ve always been free,” he states that he thinks Dave’s special is symbolic to a deeper message in saying “all that I have, I’m not afraid to lose it for the sake of freedom of speech.”
“You can’t edit yourself. Comedians … we’re like … Mercedes makes a great car, but they gotta crash a lot of them before they perfect it.”
