According to CNN Bo passed away today at 12 years old following a battle with cancer.

“This afternoon was a difficult one for our family. We said goodbye to our best friend —our dog, Bo — after a battle with cancer,” reads an Instagram post by #MichelleObama Saturday following the tragic news.

Sources have confirmed that President Obama had gifted his daughters Sasha and Malia Bo once they moved into the White House.

“Today our family lost a true friend and loyal companion,”twitted Barack on Saturday via Twitter.

He adds that Bo, “tolerated all the fuss that came with being in the White House, had a big bark but no bite, loved to jump in the pool in the summer, was unflappable with children, lived for scraps around the dinner table, and had great hair.”

President Obama concludes, We also know we aren’t the only ones who cared for Bo, and are grateful for all the love you showed him over the years,”

The Obama family also have another Portuguese water dog named Sunny.
