Cousins!
Governor Andrew Cuomo has officially signed off on a new bill that legalizes the use of recreational marijuana in New York!
“This is a historic day in New York — one that rights the wrongs of the past by putting an end to harsh prison sentences, embraces an industry that will grow the Empire State’s economy, and prioritizes marginalized communities so those that have suffered the most will be the first to reap the benefits,” states Governor Cuomo.
According to the NY Post, the bill was passed by senate with a count of 40 votes in favor of the new order and 23 against it.
Reports read that the vote then went to the assembly and was approved with a vote of 100 and 49 votes against it.
#BREAKING: I just signed legislation legalizing adult-use cannabis.
The bill creates automatic expungement of previous marijuana convictions that would now be legal.
This is a historic day.
I thank the Leader and Speaker and the tireless advocacy of so many.

“For too long the prohibition of cannabis disproportionately targeted communities of color with harsh prison sentences and after years of hard work, this landmark legislation provides justice for long-marginalized communities, embraces a news industry that will grow the economy, and establishes substantial safety guards for the public,”’states Cuomo.
