On Thursday morning an official statement was released regarding Jay’s super streaming service of Tidal announcing that they’ve sold a majority stake in their company to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and his company of Square. The company states that this new venture will create further opportunities for artists everywhere.
According to Daily News, Square is set to purchase majority stake of Tidal with the use of a mixture of cash and stock of $297 million dollars.
“A platform that supports artists at every point in their careers. Artists deserve better tools to assist them in their creative journey,” says the Brooklyn native.
” Jack and I have had many discussions about TIDAL’s endless possibilities that have made me even more inspired about its future. This shared vision makes me even more excited to join the Square board. This partnership will be a game-changer for many. I look forward to all this new chapter has to offer!”
Sources have confirmed that Jay-Z will also join Square’s board of directors, and Square’s hardware lead Jesse Dorogusker will also work as the interim head of Tidal following the closing of the deal.
It has been indicated that Tidal will continue to function as an independent company within Square and that the deal is expected to close in later in the year.
