It is with an extremely heavy heart that we inform you all of the recent passing of civil rights advocate and the first Black mayor in the history of NewYork state Mr. David Dinkins🌹

Dinkins, 93 passed away within his home located in the upper east side area of Manhattan, New York City on Monday night; reports CNN.

Sources have confirmed that officials were contacted Monday evening from Dinkins home that he was unconscious and having complications breathing.

Dinkins leaves behind an impactful history of utilizing his platform to speak out against societal issues and race equality.

Chirlane and I are mourning a truly great man. David Dinkins simply set this city on a better path.

He was my mentor, he was my friend, and his steadfast commitment to fight for that “gorgeous mosaic” inspires me every single day.
