Please join us in sending love and light to the powerhouse that is Serena Williams after she recently announced that she’s been forced to withdraw from the French Open due to an Achilles injury!
The three time French open champion made the official announcement a little before her second round match against against Tsvetana Pironkova, reports ESPN.
“I really wanted to give an effort here. It’s my Achilles that didn’t have enough time to properly heal after the [US] Open,” Williams states at a news conference.
“I was able to get it somewhat better, but just looking long term in this tournament – will I be able to get through enough matches? For me, I don’t think I could. Struggling to walk, so that’s kind of a telltale sign I should try to recover.”
Sources have confirmed that Williams is currently suffering from a left Achilles injury. It has been indicated that she will require roughly around two to six weeks to recover and more than likely won’t compete in another tournament this year.
