After 70 years in the business the Uncle Ben’s brand is set to receive a name change along with a complete packaging revamp!
According to the Guardian , the rice brand will now be known and referred to as Ben’s original. It has been indicated that the packing along with the new name will appear in supermarkets and grocery stores sometime next year.
Sources have confirmed that the company’s owner Mars has come forward to state that he understands the necessary need for change.
“Over several weeks, we have listened to thousands of consumers, our own associates and other stakeholders from around the world,” states Mars executive associate Fiona Dawson.
“We understand the inequities that were associated with the name and face of the previous brand and, as we announced in June, we have committed to change.”
Reports read that Mars stated earlier this Summer that the Uncle Ben character derived from a fictional African American Texas rice farmer and that the image is a popular Black chef and waiter from Chicago named Frank Brown. However it has been noted that he understands how times have changed.
