The state of #Illnois has recently signed a legislation order requiring all public schools to teach #LGBT history!
According to Us News the law officially went into effect in July and requires the purchasing of textbooks consisting of state grant funds including the contribution of all people protected directly under the state’s Human Rights Act.
“ One of the best ways to overcome intolerance is through education and exposure to different people and viewpoints,” said state Senator Heather Steans.
The law reads that, “the teaching of history in the U.S include a study of the roles and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the history of this country.”
Sources have confirmed that California became the first initial state to pass the law of teaching LGBT history in school followed by Colorado and New Jersey in 2019.
