Millions throughout the country are currently mourning the recent passing of civil rights icon and lawmaker #JohnLewis.
As numerous vigils and memorials take place in honor of Rep. Lewis dutiful services for justice, he is now set to be honored by a Virginia high school as they swap out the name of a former confederate general for his!
According to People, Springfield, Virginia lawmakers and the the FairfaxCounty school board have officially voted to rename Robert E. lee High school after Rep. Lewis
It has been indicated that the change was made official Friday morning, as online search data for the school had successfully identified as “ John Lewis High-School”
As we previously reported Rep. Lewis passed away earlier this month after enduring stage four of pancreatic cancer.
“Rep. Lewis was a champion of the Civil Rights movement, and our Board strongly believes this is an appropriate tribute to an individual who is a true American hero,” says a rep of the school. “We will also honor his life’s work by continuing to promote equity, justice, tolerance and service in the work that we do.”
