In an effort to make the online community of Instagram the safest social media platform ever created; CEO Adam Mosseri has recently announced the removal of likes from the public view beginning next week!

According to #Variety ; the experimental move has been established to eliminate the built in popularity contest on Instagram. It has been confirmed that they’ve already began hiding like counts within the last few months in places like Canada during Spring and other countries like Brazil, Japan and Australia. However next week’s experiment will be directly targeted at U.S users.

Reports read that the social media platform will not be removing like counts altogether. Users will still be able to review how many likes their posts obtain, but the counts won’t be displayed publicly to followers anymore, nor will they appear in Instagram feeds.

Facebook attains the parenting role of Instagram and is also working towards switching up things as well. A representative of the app has issued a public statement indicating, “We are running a limited test where like, reaction, and video view counts are made private across Facebook.”

“We will gather feedback to understand whether this change will improve people’s experiences.”

Cousins, what are your thoughts do you think removal of the like count will have a positive or negative effect on social media users?
