Black Woman Denied Pedicure, Salon Employee States “She’s Too Big”

There are two places in the world that designate as a home away from home for women; that’s both the hair salon and nail salon. Unfortunately a super harsh statement made towards a Houston, Texas woman at a local nails salon addressing her weight robbed her of that sanctuary!

#BET reports; Tina Lewis was turned away from Rose Nail Salon in Houston because of her weight. Reports read that that the occurrence took place Sept. 5th as Lewis and her mom entered the shop with hopes of getting a pedicure. That is when a salon employee stated she was too big sit at the pedicure station.

“She was like, ‘What did she just say?’… I said, ‘Yes, mama, she just said that to me,’” Lewis states. “I was like, ‘Can I get a pedicure? And what chair do I sit in?’ And (the service worker) was like, the chairs were not big enough for me to sit in. And I was like, ‘Are you serious?'”

Sources have confirmed that a salon employee Marie Bui has stated in an interview with ABC13 that she didn’t intend to offend Lewis. “I said, ‘I’m sorry, I cannot serve you because my spa chair is very small.” She goes on to say that the salon has had a similar experience with a heavy set woman who damaged their chairs.

The owner of Rose nails has come forward to state, Lewis was denied service because if the chair was potentially be overloaded it cost a heavy amount of money to repair or replace.

Our take on the situation is that the owners and employees provided a convenient excuse after forwarding an intense amount of humiliation. It’s not fair that we spend our money in these places where we can’t be properly accommodated let alone provide common courtesy!
