Atlanta based rapper #21savage is effectively utilizing his traumatic episode he endured earlier this year of being abruptly detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) to offer assistance to those in need.

According to #VibeMagazine ; 21 has recently donated a total of $25,000 to the civil rights organization Southern Poverty Law Center ( SPLC) . Sources have indicated that the organization was extremely helpful during 21’s detainment. The money will be used to help provide funding for detained immigrants held captured in US customs seeking legal counsel.

The SPLC has forwarded reports that read only %17 of detained immigrants are offered legal counsel. Which leaves a large percentage of people to fend for themselves. It has been stated that without legal counsel the detained members are at higher risks of being deported or separated from their families.

An immigration law attorney, Charles H. Kuck has come forward to state that 21’s donation offering has been publicized as a way to influence other Americans to lend a helping hand to those in need.

“21 Savage is making this donation public because everyday Americans need to know that ICE is using civil immigration detention as a weapon against immigrants, many of whom, like 21 Savage, have relief from deportation and are able to fix their immigration status,” Kuck states. “Creating oppressively adverse conditions of detention, like those in Irwin County, Georgia, far away from family and legal counsel, causes despair and hopelessness, and forces these men and women to give up on their immigration claims. The SPLC, through its Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative (SIFI) stands at the front line of this fight and supporting this effort lets all Americans know that the Constitution which protects the least of us, protects all of us.”
