From a top selling album, to being honored with keys to major cities; all the while advocating for prison reform. As we all know life has been anything but easy for him, but Meek has shown and proved that dreams can always survive nightmares.
According to the #GrapeVine , a six part docuseries entitled “ Free Meek “ is set to premier on Amazon Prime this summer. Jay has also paired up with Intellectual Property Corp’s Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman; along with journalist Paul Solotaroff and executive producer Issac Solotaroff. The film is set to depict a chronological mirror of Meek’s life and his battle with the criminal justice system. The series has been described as “fight for exoneration while exposing flaws in the criminal justice system.”
Meek was previously imprisoned In November 2017 due to the surfacing of an Instagram video that shows him popping wheelies. The act was deemed a violation of Meek’s parole agreement and he was sentenced to 2-4 years of prison. Though he released 5 months into his sentencing , Meek has utilized this ordeal to inflict change. Meek’s ongoing battle with the law has caused a much needed look at the social justice system and the severity of punishments placed on the black community. “ I’m grateful for this unique opportunity to share my story, and I look forward to collaborating with Amazon Prime Video, Roc Nation and the Intellectual Property Corporation on this incredible series,” states Meek. “Not only will this documentary give viewers an unprecedented look at my life, but it will also allow me to use my public platform to highlight the need for criminal justice reform.”
