Noir Nation, this one’s… wild. A New York City woman says she got way more than she bargained for when she took a bite of her Chipotle burrito bowl — claiming she found a rodent inside.

According to the NY Post, 24-year-old Gia Bernhardt placed an order from a Chipotle between East 84th and East 85th Street and Third Avenue back on January 11. The order included a burrito bowl, chips, and guacamole.

What was supposed to be a simple meal quickly turned into a legal battle, as Bernhardt filed a lawsuit against both the restaurant and DoorDash, alleging the shocking discovery caused her serious distress. “The rodent was within the plaintiff’s mouth after biting into the meal,” the civil suit reads.

Chipotle, on the other hand, isn’t backing down. After reviewing the meal and photos, the company says it’s confident the “mystery item” was actually a piece of chicken tendon or ligament, insisting their food safety standards are top-notch. Claiming that they  “will vigorously defend ourselves against these claims,” a company spokesperson to the outlet.

“Internal agents of Chipotle analyzed the evidence both in person and in photographs and are confident the object is a chicken tendon/ligament,” Laurie Schalow, Chief Corporate Affairs and Food Safety Officer, said in a statement.

She added, “The health and safety of our employees and guests is our highest priority, and we have industry-leading food safety practices in place across our restaurants.”

Gia is currently seeking a monetary compensation and and punitive damages
