Authorities Identify Florida State University Shooter As Son Of A Local Sheriff Deputy!

Officials have identified the son of a local Deputy Sheriff, as the gunman responsible for a series of tragic shootings at Florida State University!

20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, son of Leon County Sheriff Deputy Jessica Ikner is said to have had access to a firearm previously belonging to his mother as a service weapon. Authorities confirm that she had legally purchased the gun as a personal possession at the time of the shootings.

According to reports from NBC News two people have been confirmed as deceased and at least five others have been injured. FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbower, states that the names of the victims have not been released as of yet and that they are not students of the University.

“This event is tragic in more ways than you people in the audience could ever fathom from a law enforcement perspective,” Sheriff McNeil said during a press conference. “But I will tell you this—we will do everything we can to prosecute and make sure that we send a message to folks that this will never be tolerated here in Leon County, and I dare say, across this state and across this nation.”

Phoenix is currently in police custody and being treated for his injuries at a local hospital–while six victims are being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Classes have been canceled for all students as officials continue to investigate the series of tragic events and Phoenix’s motive. The university has informed students that the threat to campus has been neutralized but that surrounding areas are being considered an active crime scene.

An FSU student tells local news that when he saw the gunman he appeared to be normal, describing him as a regular “College dude.”

“I was walking, and this guy pulls up in an orange Hummer,” said the student. “And he gets out with a rifle and shoots in my direction.”
