Tabitha Brown Explains How Boycotts Could Hurt Black Businesses Following Target DEI Rollback!

Tabitha Brown is opening up about the series of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) rollbacks in the last couple of days from popular retailers!

In a ten minute video posted to Instagram, Tabitha expressed how upset she feels as a Black business owner and collaborator whose housewares and haircare line is exclusively sold at Target.

“It has been a tough week, right? Baby, it’s been a rough 2025, and we are still in January,” said Tabitha. As disheartening as it is for me, I am not the only one affected by this.”

She also addressed social media users’ feelings of shock regarding DEI rollbacks from retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart, while explaining that she understands their frustration.

“If we all decide to boycott and be like ‘no, we’re not spending no money at these organizations,’ listen, I get it. And if that’s how you feel, honey, I get it,” she said. “But so many of us will be affected. Our sales will drop, our business will be hurt.”

Tabitha moved on to encourage the Black community to not boycott these retailers as it will directly hurt Black business owners.

“Don’t allow foolishness to take us into separation and weed us out, you understand?” she said. “As frustrated as I am and as frustrated as all of you are, we still gotta be smart.”

The beloved influencer explains that an effective plan of action is needed but not one that causes more harm than positive impact.

“We, unfortunately, have to play the game,” said Tabitha. “And in playing that game, we gotta be smarter. The ones who think they’re in control. Don’t allow foolishness to take us into separation, and weed us out. Do you understand? Because sometimes that’s what they want, and in times like this, they’re telling us that.”

Please remember you are qualified and you’ve done the work!! DEI is not the only reason you have made it this far! Don’t let them sell you that lie!! You deserve to be there!!!

She continued, “I thank you for supporting me for the last five years, I have worked with Target,” she said. “I thank you for showing up for me, I thank you for supporting me when you did. And if you choose not to anymore, I’ll understand that,” she added.

“And I still thank you, and I’m grateful but if you’ve heard anything that I’ve said today, if you still choose to show up for me, I thank you, but also thank you for showing up for others. We in it together.”

I don’t like what Tabitha Brown said, because she is insinuating that the fate of her brand and other black brand is in the hands of boycotting black consumers, instead of placing blame on the actual companies rolling back DEI initiatives that will likely drop her.
