A North Carolina family has been left with a heavy heart following the tragic murder of their loved one on his wedding day!

According to local news outlet WXII, Tyrek Burton had been married for a total of 7 hours when he was fatally shot Saturday October 12, outside of the Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“Why on the wedding day? Why him? Just why, why, why?” Tyrek’s sister-in-law Nysheria Holloway said in an interview with WRAL.

“He stepped up to be a father figure in my two oldest nieces’ lives …. He moved them away from Roxboro, secured a stable job and was building a future with my sister.”

Tyrek and Kiara Holloway had been in a couple for 16 years.

Reports read that Tyrek was sadly shot fifteen times following an alleged road rage encounter. He passed away later that evening due to his injuries.

“—-the love of his life, on one of the happiest days of his life,” said Tyrek’s ’s cousin Keisha Satterfield.

“He was a beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother and friend,” Satterfield wrote, adding that Burton was “known for his generosity, and infectious smile.”

Authorities haven’t publicly identified a suspect or a motive behind Tyrek’sn death at this time. Officials are asking for anyone with information on the tragic ordeal to please come forward, reports WFMY-CBS News.

“Tyrek was a gentleman. A hard worker. He worked 12-hour shifts. He was a husband. A loving father. A son, a brother an uncle. An amazing dad,” said Brittany Burton. “He didn’t deserve this.”

“My brother didn’t know this man at all they never met.  This was a random stranger. On his wedding day.  It’s supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life and it turned into something tragic.”

“Worldwide he did this in front of a minor, his wife with her gown on, and his best groomsman and a sister-in-law.”

Brittany says that the family had been wrapping up the reception when a random man followed Tyrek saying that he cut him off at a stop sign.

“He emptied his clip. Didn’t fire one, or two shots. He didn’t fire eight shots. It was in the teens,” said Brittany. “He literally had a hole in his chest over road rage.”

Despite life saving efforts made, Tyrek later passed away due to his injuries.

“For the person who did this, I can’t even call you a person you’re a monster man,” said Brittany. “God is going to deal with you. God will deal with you wherever you’re at.”

Tyrek’s mother Carolyn Burton is also demanding justice for her son’s life.

“He was nothing but good and I demand justice. I demand it. I don’t want to wait years for it. He doesn’t deserve what he got. He waited 13 years to get his bride a soon as he got his bride he couldn’t even take her home.”

The Greensboro Police Department is currently investigating the tragic ordeal encouraging anyone with information about this incident to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
