Following a private screening of Prime Video’s limited series ‘Evolution of The Black Quarterback’ both Jalen Hurts and Michael Vick discussed the impact of Black quarterbacks from the past present and future!
While in conversation with Thursday night football reporter and journalist Taylor Rooks for a Q&A discussion at the legendary Apollo Theater, Jalen was asked how does the constant praise he receives from his fans play a role in his overall game and what does it do for his spirit.
“It’s very settling and it’s a reminder of those who have come before me.”
Jalen went on to express how fellow quarterbacks including Michael’s legacy in football played a major role in his life from a child to a pro athlete. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback gave Michael his flowers on setting the standard for the next generation of Black quarterbacks.

“Michael you the standard—you are the epitome of what a quarterback should be.”
“Paving the way for so many quarterbacks to come after him. I remember—-and I told you this before—- for Christmas I was in elementary school and I get the Black Atlanta Falcons jersey you know and a couple years later I get the seven in midnight green,” said Jalen.
“Just the inspiration in those moments you carry that on in the present time and you don’t even realize that you’re having that same impact on someone else.”
Michael also went on to acknowledge the love he often receives for his time in the NFL and his overall legacy.
He shared that his main initiative within the ‘Evolution of The Black Quarterback’ limited series is to help amplify conversations by spreading awareness for those who paved the way on and off the field as Black quarterbacks.
“The reason we made this project—people come up to me all the time and they say ‘Mike you changed the game you revolutionized the position,’ but I always wanted to pay homage to those that came before me.”
Michael continued, “And I really appreciate those remarks and those comments and people acknowledging what I sacrificed for the game but I always ask have you ever heard of Donovan McNabb, Marlin Briscoe, or Warren Moon and the answer most of the time is no,” said Michael.
‘Evolution of the Black Quarterback’ serves as a three-part docu-series narrated by Michael as he travels across the country to discover the historical impact and influence of Black quarterbacks.
The series honors both retired and current quarterbacks with appearances by Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, Donovan McNabb, James “Shack” Harris, Warren Moon, and Doug Williams, as they reflect on their trailblazing careers.
Celebrities and fellow football players Common, Deion Sanders, Larry Wilmore, Steve Young, Josh Allen and Jamie Foxx also made special appearances.
