ESSENCE 2024 Fashion House Kicks Off New York Fashion Week Celebrating Black Creatives And Culture!

Essence magazine kicked off New York Fashion Week hosting its sixth annual Fashion House bringing together hundreds of Black creatives, fashion lovers, designers, and innovators!

The sold-out September 6th event was hosted by model and actress Eva Marcille, highlighting the theme of “Luxury Undefined”—-with the initiative of spotlighting the evolution of the fashion industry and the importance of building community.

Amongst attendees were celebrities and influencers June Ambrose, Dreka Gates, Bandit The Rapper, singer J. Rey Alex Tyree, Nick Arrington, Wendell Lissimore, Skylar Marshai, Temitope Ibisanmi, and more.

Guests enjoyed music from DJ David while sipping signature cocktails and activations either posing for custom photo booth pictures or staying hydrated at a decked-out SmartWater Lounge.

Attendees gained access to the SOKO market spotlighting multiple Black-owned businesses. The showcase featured various fashion collections from Kapil, Tejahn Burnett, Freddie Estelle, and more.

The evening featured multiple panels, dance performances and workshops centered around the expansion and growth of fashion for Black creatives.

Celebrity stylist and fashion architect Misa Hylton discussed the impact of mentorship and community as part of the ‘The Authenticity Code: Navigating Authenticity In The Luxury Market,’ panel.

While speaking on the value of educating the next generation of creatives on how to establish a professional structure, Misa expressed, “We have to give back… to our community, to our people… to make sure that not only do we get a seat at the table, we’re able to stay in that seat and build longevity.”

The evening wrapped with a conversation featuring Harlem natives Dapper Dan and FERG. Together the fashion designer and rapper opened up about remaining authentic in an industry that idolizes trends.
