Kendrick Lamar‘s chart-topping diss track ‘Not Like Us’ has been getting major buzz as folks continue to blast it word for word, dubbing it the song of the year. Apparently the folks of the Recording Academy not only agree but they have also categorized it as Grammy worthy.

While in conversation with TMZ, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason was asked about the diss track aimed directly at Drake and if it would be eligible for a Grammy nomination. “Obviously, it’s a hot record, it’s amazing artistry,” said Mason. “Great writing… Incredible.”

“You got an artist that’s been nominated before,” the CEO added. “He’s been successful with the organization… I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be.” Mason insisted that the quality of the song is what matters at the end of the day, and “Not Like Us” checks all the boxes.”

The folks of TMZ also asked if the lyrics and the context of the song regarding accusations of pedophilia paired with verbal attacks would be considered problematic for Grammy voters.

Mason expressed certainty that the Grammy voters are fully knowledgeable of greatness in reference to Not Like Us.  “That’s a relevant record.”

“It’s impactful on so many levels. I like to believe the Academy members recognize that,” he added.

Mason was also asked about the possibility of a “diss” category being introduced at the Grammys. “Anything is possible,” he said jokingly.

Throughout Kendrick’s career, he has racked up 50 Grammy nominations while taking home 17 wins.
