Cousins! Please join us in sending our deepest condolences to OJ Simpson’s family and friends following confirmed reports of his passing!
According to the New York Post OJ passed away on Wednesday, April 10th in his Las Vegas home following a battle with Cancer. He is said to have been receiving treatment in Sin City after a prostate cancer diagnosis.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” reads a statement to Twitter (X) from OJ’s family.
“He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
OJ will forever be remembered for his legacy in football as he has been recognized as one of the most influential athletes of the late 1960s- 1970s.
As a running back OJ successfully played 11 NFL seasons and earned four NFL rushing titles. The San Francisco native rushed over 11,236 yards in his career, scoring 76 touchdowns, and was featured in five Pro Bowls, reports the New York Post.
He garnered much success on the big screen in later years while appearing in films and mini-television series. However, OJ’s career took a twisted turn following the brutal murder of his second wife Nicole Brown alongside her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994.
The entire ordeal swept the nation as Oj was accused of the double murder. From a slow-speed chase in his white Ford Bronco leading to his arrest to a tabloid and media sensation surrounding his trial; OJ’s acquittal serves as one of the most memorable moments of the early 90s era.
The former athlete and Hollywood trailblazer’s career wasn’t ever able to fully repaired as he spent years in debt and was ordered him to pay $33.5 million to both Brown and Goldman’s families after a civil jury found him liable in 1997.
OJ is survived by his four children from his previous marriages to Marguerite Whitley and Nicole Brown.
