Cousins! Less than a week after their season three premiere, the Emmy and Golden Globe mockumentary-winning series ‘Abbott Elementary’ has been renewed for a fourth season!
News of the ABC Network-based show being renewed for another season was announced by cast member William Stanford Davis also known as Mr. Johnson, reports Huff Post. William announced the big news during ABC’s session at the Television Association’s winter press tour as he arrived as a surprise guest.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, ‘the success of Abbott’s season three premiere perfectly aligned with their previous premieres in secured viewers.
“2.8 million total viewers and a 0.5 in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic for its first part and 2.7 million and a 0.5 for the latter”
Abbott’ is produced under a duo-production partnership between Disney’s 20th Television and Warner Bros. Television.
“To kick off the new school year, Abbott Elementary places Janine (Brunson) outside of the classroom and inside the Philadelphia School District, where she takes a new job. The flashback to the beginning of the school year for Development Day, five months prior, showed how she was enticed to participate in the fellowship program by guest stars Josh Segarra, Kimia Behpoornia and Benjamin Norris,” reads season three synopsis from the Hollywood Reporter.
Quinta previously explained the time jump as the season begins five months into the new school year. She says that the decision was made in efforts of syncing the show with real life.
“Abbott is a show where we try to go by the school calendar,” said Quinta on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
“We start in September, along with teachers, and we like to stick with that calendar. This year, we had to make some adjustments so we got creative, so to say why we’re starting in February instead of September.”
The Philadelphia based mockumentary cast includes ‘Abbott’ creator Quinta Brunson alongside Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Davis and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
