Tap Dance Legend And Actor Maurice Hines Passes Away At 80 Years Old!

Cousins! Please join us in extending our deepest condolences and prayers regarding the recent passing of Maurice Hines!

According to reports from USA Today, Maurice passed away Friday, December 29th at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey.

His cousin Richard Nurse confirms that Maurice died due to natural causes and that he had been living at the home for the last few years.

The Broadway icon began his journey to stardom as a kid while touring with his father, Maurice Sr., and his younger brother Gregory, reports PEOPLE.

Within his long-standing career Maurice earned a Tony Award nomination in 1986 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his part in ‘Uptown…It’s Hot!

Amongst his other Broadway credits Maurice took part in productions such as The Girl in Pink Tights, Bring Back Birdie 2006’s Hot Feet and more.

“Maurice Hines, I was your first leading lady in a show, “Guys and Dolls” and I will always treasure our journey together,”wrote Debbie Allen on Twitter (X).

“My tears are for my inability to speak with you or to hold you. I will ALWAYS SPEAK YOUR NAME. See you on the other side. 🥲🥲🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️.”
