Cousins! Fresh off of his Basketball Hall of Fame induction high, former NBA all-star Dwyane Wade reveals that he’s been approached by Florida Democrats to possibly run for office!
According to People Magazine, both Dwyane and Grant Hill made headlines earlier this year following rumors that the two had been possible candidates for the 2024 U.S senate run. Though neither of them has ever addressed claims, Dwyane has recently confirmed that he has been approached by members of the Florida Democrat Donor groups.
In conversation with the New York Times, Dwyane says he is familiar with discussions being had about him running for office. “I mean, it’s just conversation,” Wade said. “‘Hey, you would be good for,’ ‘Hey, we can see you in,’ ‘We would love to have you in.’”
Dwayne continues, “It’s things that I’m passionate about that I will speak out on and speak up for. And so I don’t play the politician games. I don’t know a lot about it.”
Outside of a legendary career in basketball Dwyane has successfully utilized his platform to spread awareness throughout the LGBTQ+ community.
“I also understand that I have a role as an American citizen and as a known person to be able to highlight and speak on things that other people may not be able to because they don’t have the opportunity to do this,” said Dwyane.
PEOPLE reports that Dwyane, his wife Gabrielle Union and their family have relocated from California to Florida following recently proposed anti-LGBTQ legislation issued by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions,” said Dwyane previously.
“I mean, obviously, the tax [situation] is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there.”
