Cousins! As Doja Cat continues to lose a large number of followers on her Instagram she has expressed the freedom she feels in being accepted by who she is now as oppose to who she originally was as an artist!
As we previously reported the Grammy award winning rapper has been having it out with fans since last month back in July as she called them out for naming themselves ‘Kittenz’ to describe Doja’s fanbase.
“If you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or f***ing ‘Kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house,” wrote the 27 year old on Threads.
The Independent reports that the website Social Blade has indicated, that Doja has recently been unfollowed by more than 550,000 Instagram users within the last 30 days. It has been stated that 300,000 of her followers were lost just days after she made posts against her fans.
It appears that Doja is keeping the same energy following circulated reports that she has a hefty amount of followers across social media.
“Seeing all these people unfollow makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long and it feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who i am and not for who i was,” Doja wrote on Wednesday afternoon.
“I feel free.”
While speaking with Harper’s Bazaar in a newly published issue released this week, Doja expressed that she feels fans are overly invested in her personal life without knowing her on a personal level.
“My theory is that if someone has never met me in real life, then, subconsciously, I’m not real to them.
“So when people become engaged with someone they don’t even know on the internet, they kind of take ownership over that person,” said Doja. ‘They think that person belongs to them in some sense.”
“When that person changes drastically, there is a shock response that is almost uncontrollable… I’ve accepted that that’s what happens… I have all the freedom in the world.”
