P-Valley Star J. Alphonse Nicholson Responds To Emmy Snub, “Thank You For All The Love”

Cousins! Social media users are not taking it lightly that a few of their favorite television series and starring actors didn’t receive recognition following the recently released Emmy Award nominations, mainly surrounding shows like Snowfall and P Valley ! Quite honestly, can we blame them?

Actor J.Alphonse Nicholson known for his role of Lil Murda on P-Valley, has taken to social media following this year’s Emmy Awards noms to thank his fans for ridding out with him. “ Thank you for all the love. Although I didn’t get an Emmy nomination I’m grateful to be on a series that has a higher impact on the culture.”

He added, “Congratulations to all the nominees. Special shout out to @PValleySTARZ hair department on their nomination.”

In the last two seasons Nicholson’ s portrayal of Lil Murda has become a deeply rooted fan favorite as the Mississippi rapper comes to terms with his sexuality and growing relationship with Pynk strip club owner Uncle Clifford ( Nicco Annan )

Fellow P-Valley cast memebers that also delivered impeccable performances such as Brandee Evans, Shannon Thornton and new comer Gail Bean were also left of the acting categories of Emmy nominations.

Social media users have began to dive deeper into the circulated conversation surrounding Black storytelling and how it’s often overlooked within the industry. It’s no secret that the Oscars as well as the Emmys Black and brown creatives ratio of winning or even obtaining nominations are seemingly low compared to white actors, directors and writers.

“J. Alphonse Nicholson deserved a nomination as well. His performance on #PValley this season was amazing he brought so much emotion to his character and yet nothing. It’s getting old,” wrote a social media user.

“I know PValley is ghetto as fuck and Hollywood hates that but it deserved something especially Lil Murda’s storyline.”

“J. Alphonse Nicholson is an AMAZING actor and what he brought to season 2 of P. Valley was nothing short of remarkable. Yet not a single Black man got any lead actor nominations in any category. DISGUSTING.”
