Cousins! Kanye West has had his 2015 honorary degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago snatched recently following antisemitic comments he made in the last few months!

According to TMZ, SAIC president Elissa Tenny has stated that Kanye, “has exhibited disturbing behaviors and made dangerous statements that do not align with our community values.”

Within a recently issued letter Elissa continues in explaining that, “anti-Black, antisemitic, and incendiary statements are disgusting and condemnable.” She expressed that the comments have been “painful for our entire community.”

SAIC’s honorary degrees are issued to individuals that exhibit tremendous contributions to both art and culture. Elissa says that Kanye’s most recent actions and statements, “do not align with SAIC’s mission and values.”

Reports read the school decided to revoke Kanye’s previously issued degree following a meeting with the Board of Governors. This news comes at no surprise though, as a petition consisting of 4,100 enrolled students advocated for the Chicago native to be stripped of his credentials was created back a few weeks ago.

“This was a difficult decision to make, and one that has been deliberated thoroughly,” reads a statement from the SAIC President wrote. It has been stated that this is the institution’s first time ever revoking a degree.”

The statement continues, “Though we firmly believe in the right to express a diversity of opinions and beliefs, the severity of his behavior made it clear that rescinding this honor was appropriate.”
