Cousins! Updates on Brittney Griner have been kept fairly minimal following her recent transfer to a penal colony to begin her 9 year sentencing!

As we previously reported her legal team revealed that they haven’t been provided specific details of her current whereabouts.

Within a recent interview musician Nadya Tolokonnikova reflected on her time of serving two years within a Russian prison while also issuing concern for Brittney. Nadya explains that she does not know where the WNBA all-star is currently located but fears that Brittney may be detained in lK-2.

“I’m terrified that Brittney Griner was moved to IK-2. It’s one of the harshest colonies—it is literally the harshest colony in the whole Russian prison system,” says Nadya.

She says that the prison is slave-like and issues claims prisoners are forced to work 16+ hours per day.

According to reports from TMZ, Brittney is believed to face inhumane work conditions within a reportedly homophobic and racist environment. Political sport’s writer David Zirin tells the outlet that medical care is close to non-existent within Russian prisons and that prisoners are expected to sew uniforms for both police and guards. He shares that Brittney may not even be provided a bed fit for height.

Brittney’s team says that she is remaining brave and is doing as well as expected. “Despite the fact she is alone and now nearing her ninth month in detention separated from her loved ones,” her reps said, “she is trying to stay strong.”
