Cousins! Raven Symone recently opened up about some of her pivotal roles in television that have helped her become a voice to the next generation and how she’s been able to keep her personal life completely separate!
While speaking with ‘Them’ in a newly shared interview Raven shares that she had turned down the Disney channel’s offer to have her character Raven Baxter apart of the ‘That’s So Raven’ reboot series ‘Raven’s Home’ come out as Gay.
“I think Disney wanted her to be queer in the beginning, and I just didn’t feel comfortable doing that,” Raven said. “They were like, ‘Do you want Raven to be gay?’ I said, ‘Why?’ ‘Because you are.’ I said bad, bad reason. That’s a bad reason.”
Within the series Raven continues to breathe life into her iconic role that fans all know and love. Instead of playing the role of a teenage girl in high-school Raven is now an a newly single, divorced mother in Chicago. She later travels back home to San Francisco after her dad suffered a heart attack.
Raven explained that she thought it didn’t make much sense for the character to come out as gay. “No, Raven Baxter never exhibited any type of sexual identity situation in the priors. I’m not being myself on this show, I’m being a character. Raven Baxter’s not gay.”
She continued in sayin, “No matter what the first four seasons looked like with me and Chelsea sleeping in the same room and us raising a family together.”
Raven shares throughout the interview that she’s always been aware of herself even as a young child and decided to keep her personal life completely private. She says that things shifted when only once she decided to seemingly retire.
