Cousins! The 2018 armed robbery incident where Safaree was robbed of over $100,000 in jewelry at gun point, has officially wrapped up with a childhood friend of his being sentenced to over 15 years behind bars!

According to North Jersey news, Shawn Harewood was identified as the final person sentenced within the Fort Lee ordeal. He has been found guilty of Robbery, eluding and resisting arrest. However he was confirmed as not guilty in robbing Safaree’s companion, conspiracy to commit robbery or any weapons charges.

It has been stated by the prosecution team in court that Shawn was the brains behind the entire operation. However when he took the stand during his trial, he is said to have lied to the hurry about any involvement concerning himself and ruling his actions being due to intoxication. Court documents show that he tracked the ‘Love and Hip Hop’ cast members movements, while also hiring two men to rob him prior to attempting to leave the scene driving the George Washington Bridge. He was captured on foot alongside a man named Jonathan Ricketts.

Prior to the official ruling Shawn had taken the stand with a full statement in saying that he has made many mistakes in his life how we his action in his opinion don’t identify who he is as a man, “These moments do not define me, and they’re not reflective of me,”. He went to apologize to, “ all involved” and that he was not proud of his bad decisions. He is said to have never mentioned Safaree’s name.

Proceeding Judge Gary Wilcox ultimately sentenced Shawn to a total of 18 years in prison, agreeing alongside the prosecution team that his sentences should be consecutively as oppose to concurrently. He explained that despite the crimes happening, they were still considered separate.

Shawn received the maximum amount of years an individual could receive for the crime of eluding of 10 years, along with with 8 years for robbery instead of the maximum of 10 years. His attorney Brian Neary stated that the sentencing would make it difficult for him to financially provide for his daughter. The prosecution team responded in saying that, “he didn’t take her or his family into account when the crime was committed.” Also that his daughter is now 17 years old. “His daughter is essentially an adult,” said Klizy. “She was 13 at the time of his arrest in 2018.”

As far as the other parties involved, his cousin identified as Tacuma Ashman, had been convicted back in 2021 for first-degree robbery, weapons charges and resisting arrest she was ruled as being his accomplice. Carl Harry had also pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in 2019

Following the official verdict Shawn’s attorney argues that the overall ruling challenges the theory of his client being the source of the plan that stripped Safaree of over $180,000 in both cash and jewelry.

Reports read that both Bergen County Assistant Prosecutors Joe Torre and Meg Kilzy succeeded in arguing that the robbery and eluding were two completely separate crimes and how they overall affected different victims involved. They also explained how Shawn had been linked to a series of financial related crimes in the past, citing him as lacking remorse for his actions.

Sources confirm eluding charges are paired with an automatic 5 year mandatory parole ineligibility. Shawn is required to serve 85% of the robbery sentence and has already racked up 4 years served.

Shawn and Safaree are said to have been friends since 14 years old, sources claim that the two lost contact following his breakup with Nicki Minaj.
