We had the chance to Kick it One on One with actress and leading star Jamila C.Gray of the highly anticipated film “On The Come Up”
While speaking to Jamila about the new coming of age story she gave us exclusive tea on the artists she tapped into each day to prepare for her role of Bri aka Lil Law. She gives major props to talented lyricist and songwriter Rapsody for her overall influence within the film.
Jamila reveals that she also had an everyday playlist ranging from Mobb deep , Big Pun , Jay-Z , Miss Jade and a whole bunch of purely classic Hip Hop and Rap hits.
Taking place in Garden Heights, “On The Come Up” follows the life of a gifted 16 year old female battle rapper looking to make a name for herself in the music industry while helping take care of her family.
Ultimately, Bri learns how things can change real quick when you get caught up pretending to be someone you’re not.
Directed by Sanaa Lathan and deriving from The NY Times best seller book list “On Come Up” will be available for streaming this Friday September 23rd only on Paramount+
